Urgent Pedagogies Workshop

Location: Midyat / Batman, Türkiye

Speaker - Participant: Aslı Kıyak İngin

The Urgent Pedagogies workshop titled “Unlearning Assemblies: Localities, Engagements and Earth Pedagogies” was held in Midyat and Batman between 24-28 September 2025.

Organized with the support of the Arazi Assembly collective, IASPIS, and SAHA Sustainability Fund, the workshop brought together various researchers, artists, designers, and local actors around localities, ecological destruction, slow violence, spatial practices, and earth pedagogies. Within the scope of the program, Aslı Kıyak İngin took part among the participants from Istanbul and contributed in the context of her work on critical, sustainable, and solidarity-based urban and spatial practices.

The workshop process focused on rethinking the relationships established with place, water, soil, plants, seeds, and non-human beings through the ecological, cultural, and social layers of the geographies of Midyat and Batman. While the effects of historical and current disasters on resistance, solidarity, and imagination were discussed, a shared ground for thinking was formed around how critical spatial practices developing in different localities can build pluralistic and non-extractive forms of solidarity.
