Following the 2008 INURA workshop and the 2009 INURA Istanbul conference, the INURA conference is taking place in Istanbul once again: City, Now! Haydi, Şehir!
Historically, Istanbul has been the magnetic pole of urbanity. It earned the simple, almost logo-like name “Poli” – simply “The City”, for centuries Istanbul alone represented the idea and reality of a city in this part of the world. Its unique location has been both a blessing and a curse: Humans tried to but could not abandon it: So they built here a living body of extraordinary complexity and multilayered depth... In the 34th INURA meeting in June we want to build on our earlier Istanbul meetings, but we also want to expand thematically. Furthermore we want to look at the state of our cities from a regional perspective…

INURA 2026 Istanbul, under the title “City, Now! / Haydi Şehir!”, brings together participants from different geographies in Istanbul around urban research, urban struggles, local production practices, and collective learning processes. The conference addresses Istanbul’s current urban transformation processes, solidarity networks developing at the neighborhood scale, public space discussions, and critical spatial practices together with field-based experiences.
The program includes field trips, talks, discussions, public events, and collective evaluation sessions. Through different areas of Istanbul, the city’s relationships with production, housing, ecology, commons, migration, cultural heritage, and everyday life are opened up for collective discussion.
INURA 2026 Istanbul, this international gathering, opens up a space for the exchange of experiences among researchers, activists, designers, local actors, and initiatives working on the city. Istanbul’s multilayered structure is reread throughout the conference through different routes, narratives, and encounters.
Haydi Şehir ! Хајде, град! Hajde Grad ! Ајде, град!
Hajde Qytet ! Хайде, град! Hai Urbe ! Άντε, πόλη!
City now!
