“Bridging Art Deco: A Hidden Heritage from Istanbul to Brussels” exhibition welcomed visitors at the Dean’s Floor of the Faculty of Architecture at Yıldız Technical University in Istanbul between 23 February and 13 March. Following its presentation in Brussels, the exhibition returned to Istanbul for the third time, bringing this cultural journey back to the city where it began.
At the opening of the exhibition, speeches were delivered by Prof. Dr. Sırma Turgut, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Omay Polat; Aslı Kıyak İngin on behalf of the Beinsitu Sustainability Institute; and Prof. Dr. Nilüfer Baturayoğlu Yöney, Secretary of docomomo_Türkiye. The event continued with a session moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selin Yıldız, during which exhibition and workshop participants shared their reflections.
By making Istanbul’s often overlooked Art Deco and modern architectural heritage visible, the exhibition offered an important opportunity to reconsider the city’s architectural memory.
The exhibition was realized by the Beinsitu Sustainability Institute, docomomo_Türkiye National Working Group, and Yıldız Technical University, with the support of the Permanent Delegation of Türkiye to the EU, the Embassy of Türkiye in Brussels, and Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi Company.
