The Gece series is a lighting object designed as a different interpretation of the use of candle holders and candelabras, inspired by the nighttime states of Istanbul. At night, the city reveals a completely different face; it is stripped of the daytime crowd, becomes simpler, and takes on a timeless character. During these hours, illuminated monuments and structures appear almost like lanterns within Istanbul. This effect constitutes the starting point of the design. The light, illumination, and guiding quality that monumental structures carry for the city are, this time, reconsidered through an object brought into the interior space.
The relationship that stone, metal, and lace-like architectural details encountered in the city establish with light can be traced in the form and material selection of the design. While the black and white marble used in the body refers to the stone texture of architecture, the upper section where the candlelight is placed is handled within a worked metal casing. This structure enables the light to produce richer shadow, reflection, and lighting effects in the space where it is located. At the same time, it makes visible the relationship that finely crafted details in architecture establish with light.
The Gece series has two different versions named Beyazıt and Galata. Gece Beyazıt was developed based on the architectural details found in the Beyazıt Mosque.
